Hawken Sports Update: Week of January 11th

We know how busy the school year is and we know how difficult it is to stay up to date with your favorite Hawken sports teams – but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.  For the remainder of the year, every Monday The Affirmative No will post sports scores, highlights, and accomplishments to our online paper.  Even better, these updates will be written by members of the athletic teams themselves, thus you will get the inside scoop from all of Hawken’s Varsity Teams.  Go Hawks!

Monday, January 11th

Boys Basketball by Tommy Dell.  The Hawken boys’ basketball team is 6-4 overall.  We are currently in second place in the CVC with a 4-1 conference record.  The Hawks had a crushing win over Fairport, a good conference win over Richmond Heights, and just narrowly lost a hard-fought battle with Benedictine, who is ranked No. 15 in the Plain Dealer. The Hawks now benefit from the return of Desmond Lawson, who missed 4 games while he was in the Bahamas.  This full roster looks to improve on their CVC success in the coming weeks, starting Tuesday (January 12th) with Berkshire.

Girls Basketball by Katie Zuccaro.  We are having a really fun season thus far.  We suffered a loss of many senior players from last year; therefore our 3-7 record doesn’t necessarily represent how hard we are playing and improving.  Last week we had a big win over Independence, and we hope to big upon this big win in our upcoming games.

Boys Swimming by Josh Roselli.  Currently our team record is 5-1, and I think that this year we have the potential to be a really special team when we get into the championship part of the season. We have a much deeper team then in years past. Furthermore, I truly believe that every guy knows that he is going to have to play a huge role if we want to reach our expectations.  We’re a really close knit team. We have a couple huge meets coming up at the end of the season – University School, St. Ignatius, St. Eds – that are really going to test us and get us ready to be one of the top teams in the state when it’s all said and done.

Girls Swimming by Abby Forsythe. The Hawken Girls Swim Team is off to a strong start with an undefeated record thus far. Our team traveled to the Viking Invitational where they took home many individual championships as well as broke a few meet records. There are four dual meets left during their regular season as well as the CVC Championship meet. Post season starts on February 13th with the sectional meet here at Hawken.

A big thank you to all the student athletes who contributed to this edition of the Online Sports Update.  Next week look out for an update to the wrestling and diving seasons.  Go Hawks!
