What is an acai bowl? Basically, it’s a superfood smoothie that you eat with a spoon. Acai (pronounced ah-sah-ee) is a fruit from Central and South America that is rich in vitamin A and antioxidants. The fruit is hard to come by, so I make my bowls with acai powder from Whole Foods.
This easy to make and vegan-friendly dish is perfect for breakfast or snacks. You can also make it your own by switching out the fruit or replacing granola with your favorite breakfast cereal. I like to use tart fruits like berries because they make the bowl less sweet. For a sweeter or more savory bowl, some people like to use honey or peanut butter respectively. The one thing I wouldn’t change would be the frozen bananas. Frozen bananas give the bowl its sorbet-like texture, which is personally my favorite part of an acai bowl.
Here’s what you will need:
· 2 frozen bananas
· 1 cup milk or milk substitute
· 1 tablespoon acai powder
· 1 cup blackberries
· 1 cup raspberries
· 1 clementine
· 1 cup granola
Add the bananas, milk, acai powder, blackberries, and raspberries to a blender. Blend until thick and smooth. Pour the mixture into a bowl. Add the clementine and granola to the top of the bowl. Enjoy cold.
